Buying Cheap Bicycle for Children : A False Economy?

Bikes for Children

Children need and deserve good quality bikes. On a bicycle, a child can develop physical co-ordination and experience freedom and motion. To a child, a light, easy-to-ride bicycle is just like a car to an adult: it's a set of wheels, personal transport, and the key to independent travel. Lightness and quality are the really important things to look for. Give a child a bike that is too heavy or too stiff to ride, and like all bad toys it will be too quickly discarded, because it is no fun to play with.

False Economy

Stores are full of cheap children's bicycles that are sold on the premise that there is little point in spending more because a child will soon outgrow it. Buying cheap is unlikely to pay off and could even put a child off cycling for life. By contrast, investing in a good quality bike may seem extravagant in the short term, but it sure to give a child many hours of enjoyable play, and grasp of traffic and road sense.
